Kent Cowherd is a local architect with a professional degree in Architectural Design from the University of Florida. Kent founded his architectural design business after moving to Crested Butte in 1990.

Kent stands out not only for his professional achievements but also for his deep understanding of the local climate and mountain landscape. He applies a practical yet creative approach, ensuring that each design not only responds to the site’s natural beauty but also meets his clients’ unique styles and desires. His approach guides projects from initial design concepts through regulatory reviews, permitting and construction, ensuring a successful process for every client.

As a design consultant for many local subdivision architectural review committees, Kent’s insights and experience are invaluable in navigating local regulatory agencies. He and his team have a deep understanding of the local building codes in Crested Butte and Gunnison County. As an example, he has helped improve the Crested Butte building code with proposals to alter specific language that have ultimately been adopted by the town of Crested Butte and their building department.

His work has earned several design awards including the BOZAR Project of the Year in 2017. Kent’s work can be admired throughout the Crested Butte/Gunnison Valley area and including Telluride Mountain Village.
